When talking through how to build a Next Generation Parish (NGP), Pastoral Council and the NGP Implementation Team agreed that the need for childcare might be a reason that parents and families are not able to attend educational opportunities or special events at Sts. Martha and Mary. Knowing how critical the spiritual growth of parents and guardians is, the team focusing on the Growth in Knowledge of Our Catholic Faith priority want to eliminate that barrier. To that end, we are thrilled to report that a Childcare program at Sts. Martha and Mary is now available, although it's in its infancy (pun intended).
Parishioner Lacey Bertothy is leading the effort! Lacey and her husband Daniel have been members of the parish since 2022. In a short time, they have become very active & made great friends who value their devotion to the faith and each other.
Lacey and Daniel's former parish near Houston was proof that many things are bigger in Texas. The church was huge, and childcare for special events and weekend Masses was always available.
"While I don't see the numbers getting close to what they were at our church in Texas, I do hope that we can grow this program into a reliable and ongoing resource for families," Lacey said. "At the moment, we have several volunteer sitters and a few interested families who are hoping to take advantage of childcare to attend The Search," added Lacey. The bench of sitters needs to grow, and each volunteer will need to make sure their clearances are up-to-date with the Diocese, which is a simple process guided by Roseann Martino, our Safe Environment Coordinator, [email protected]. Volunteers under the age of 18 do not need to obtain clearance.
So, if you are looking for a great volunteer opportunity, love to hold babies and play with young children, reach out to Lacey today, [email protected].
